My friend was (unsurprisingly) very upset by the brain fog and is thrilled with her HRT!

To be fair, I’ve always struggled with names, but I’m definitely worse than I was. :-(

Hello. I'm popping in for a head dump and a bit of advice. I've read through the thread and appreciate that everyone is different and that I should probably see my GP (first bookable appointment is about 3 weeks away). Anyway, I went onto HRT about 4 years ago (I'm 55 now). Had sweats night and day which were interfering with running and life in general. It was like flipping a switch and all was brilliant until about 6 months ago.

My blood pressure, which has always been normal, began to be recorded as a bit on the high side. 12 hour BP monitoring showed on the highish side but not enough to be worried or for meds or stopping HRT. Lowest was 124/81, highest 146/93. A few days ago, I bought my own monitor and have readings of around the 145/93 mark. I'm now also getting daily headaches, sometimes on waking which then last all day. So, I'm in a bit of a muddle with knowing what to do or even if HRT and BP/headaches are linked. I'm also on 5mg statin.

And breathe......

Hey everyone. Menopausal runner here. Main symptoms for me are hot flushes and poor sleep (I go to sleep fine, but wake up early and sometimes can't get back to sleep again. I have particularly awful sleep after doing a race!) but it's not enough to send me to the docs for HRT (yet, anyway).
Jen - can't advise on the BP but that is probably what is causing your headaches. What I will say is that if you are on statins, you need to supplement with CoEnzyme Q10 because statins will deplete that. That may be one of the things that is making you feel unwell.

Hi Cal Jones. It was the lack of sleep that eventually sent me to the docs. That's interesting about energy levels and statins. I'm not sure whether the raised BP is linked to HRT or whether something else is causing it and that, combined with HRT is not a good thing.

WL whenever I went to the GP during my peri phase blood tests told me things were 'normal' - when I knew they weren't! I gave up going until I had got to a point of no periods for 18 months. Things that help with insomnia for me are: no caffeine after about 5.00pm, no alcohol after about 9.00pm (I do break the latter sometimes but I know what to expect!), to get myself back to sleep I find working through the alphabet thinking of film titles seems to help.

The Mighty Fleecy
Blood tests are just a snapshot and the whole point is the fluctuations. I think I started getting symptoms about 42 and I’m glad I saw the doctor then because switching to the mini pill gave me 4 years of no problems, massive decrease in wanting to kill people for 2 weeks every month and great sleep. So go see your GP Woyne Ligs. And just hope they’re less fucking useless than the one I saw!
