Agree about the V2s - really don't like the sole. The pair I bought to try are now pub shoes, and they feel weird, like they have a support post in them.

I never got on with the standard fit f-lites. I bought a pair of the first batch of zero drop std fit 195s produced and they never felt right. Talking to the guys at Pete Bland later it appears that all the factory did was take the standard upper design and stretch them onto a wider sole. Apparently they had loads returned - I wish I had. They reckon the later versions where better and a true 'standard fit'.

loki - i have to go up a size on the precision fit 195s to get enough width. Until I find something better I see it as a worthwhile sacrifice! (but I guess finding 13s will be harder still. 11s is hard enough!)

Looking to you all for some advise. I’m definitely finding the vibrams the best things I’ve ever ran in, as I said a couple of weeks ago one run back in inov8’s my shins were horrendous. Anyway I’ve since done all runs in the vibrams including a a 10m road run and no ill effects. However this morning the back of my ankles feel tight.

I’m doing calf raises and heel drips as well as lots of squats and single leg work is there anything else I need to do or just more of what I’m doing? TIA

geordiegirl, I presume this is a move for you to zero drop shoes? In which case, you're likely to get some tightness around your achilles at first, as you're stretching it slightly more than it's used to. I would say the most important things to do are to stretch your calves properly after running, and for a little while avoid doing anything too sharp and 'jerky'. Things should settle down after a while, but you don't want to to get an Achilles tear now.

I sometimes get that too geordiegirl, normally worst for me if my heels don't touch the floor when running. Haven't found a solution other than alternating and using other trainers along with the FF's. I find downward dog yoga can help and general stretching. Hopefully it will ease as you get used to the FF's ☺

The heel drops are good, it is eccentric loading (loading while lengthening) and that's what happens as your heel drops in running. If your calves are tight, stretching might help, rolling might be more effective though.

If all the targeted work you're doing is new, your body may be reacting to that as well.

SPR is right about rollering your calves, I should have added that in my recommendations. Probably worth doing in preference to stretching.

GG, check your training volume too. Looking at your log it seems it has increased recently. Worth keeping it in check while you're experiencing pain. In my experience its also worth checking your heel is contacting the ground (not first obvs) during the stride cycle, or it's more like you're sprinting for 10 miles....

Thanks for the advise all I have increased mileage for marathon training. I’m glad to hear what I’m doing is largely right and normal to experience. I do get tight calves in normal trainers too.

I’m doing single leg squats, heel rises and heel drops as well as bending knee in to touch the wall (not sure of the name of the stretch) I have the roller and avoid it haha but I’ll get back to it. Thanks again

How is your ankle flexibility? When mine get a little creaky, I do alphabets - making the letter shapes with your big toe - which often pin-points where problems lie, and generally loosens things up :)
