[budgets being used up before the end of March,WA. Councils have to keep enough in hand to be able to carry out any vital or urgent repairs, but don’t want to be left with a surplus at the end of the financial year.]

Giving kids homework over any holidays, yep. I remember when ds2 got 70 pages of SATS stuff over Easter. I wrote a note politely saying fuck right off, no fucking way was he doing that.

Actually homework full stop. Fair enough at A level and some at GCSE, but the amount of homework given just for the sake of it has just exploded. And some of it (like the PE homework) is stuff already covered in other subjects by teachers who know what the fuck they’re talking about, instead of taking some rubbish off the internet and making the kids mark each other’s work. Really quite furious about this box ticking for box ticking sake.

People with hyphenated names, who on their Facebook profile do not use a capital letter for the second name. Also people who use fucking xx kisses as xx punctuation xx.

I have observed that these people are often one and the same.

I think holiday homework is a good idea. It helps maintain discipline and routine, is the perfect parental riposte to claims of boredom, and helps remind them life isn’t al fun.
