Good solid splits, they look more like 10k race pace in the context of looking for sub 90, so in the right pace ballpark.

Just started thinking about sub 1:30 at Maidenhead Half on Sept 1st. We are only 6 weeks out but I'm following the last 6 weeks of the P&D training plan to at least get me used to a bit of hard work. Did 20km yesterday and feel it in the legs today!

Here's the P&L HM plans if you fancy some HM specific options instead of the usual marathon P&D stuff CW. Two pages / images per plan.

Really happy with my 20km progressive run this morning. 5k splits 27:57, 25:53, 23:55 and 22:06. Last three 1km splits 4:06, 4:18 and 4:28. The last k was only slower than race pace because I got a bit lost going from the river path to park we had started from and I had to double back a couple of times.

Looking at my plan for the weekend I have a 'parkrun tempo' run planned for Saturday. Normally I would look to run a parkrun at about half marathon race pace a week out but the nearest parkrun to where I will be staying is particularly tough (my pb there is 25m 07s after 6 runs on the course and that was run when I was in reasonable shape.) Is there value in using this tough parkrun as a good training session one week out from a goal race or should I go further afield and run at a flatter parkrun where 1 30 half marathon pace should be straight forward?

Well that depends on the distance but I would be happy with an effort run on a tough course even if the pace is show

The distance to an alternative parkrun isn't a problem at all - I just like to go local where I can.

Probably only an extra 10 minutes drive

Might parkrun (in the sense of it being a "race" with others) feel too easy, in the sense that you should comfortably be able to hit HM pace in a parkrun a week out from the race?

My earliest HM running involved a taper which typically had a 5.5m run at the beginning of taper week which targeted race pace. Always a tough run, but typically whatever pace I hit for that run was about 2-3s faster than what I was hoping to run on race day. I picked a route which was broadly race-comparable, and ran it solo.

In an ideal world, if you are parkrunning the weekend before I would be looking for at least some similarities between the course and the HM race terrain. But the training effect is probably indistinguishable between running on a "tough" course and running on one which is flatter at this stage in your prep.
