Ta. Happy to draw a line under Spring 2019 now and properly get myself "up for it" for the autumn. With XC races and Borders League races this winter, I may have over-raced myself and taken the sparkle off my race day mentality so need to fix that for October.

I think I underestimated how much of a distraction it was having Mrs L doing the race too - though in the end, it was supposed to be her Christmas present and she pointed out a few times that she was mildly irked that I did the race too!!

Ooh, that's a good point larks. If it was meant to be "her" race, bit naughty of you not to be other side of the barriers cheering her on! That must have cost you 30s!

Good luck clare with sub 90. And riggsy, you should be a shoe in. I'm sure I went 1:29 at Loch Leven when I was 3:13 at Abingdon. Unless it's crazy hilly? :-) G

Sub 90 should be a cruise riggsy based on your marathon 3:13 - though nothing is ever certain; you've definitely got the pace for it though.

Though the word "coastal" could well tell it's own story!!

And clare too - fingers crossed for a good build up and a champs qualifiying 1:30!

I've not done a big race like Chester for a while (Snowdonia doesn't count), it feels odd finishing 128th out of 4300 when finishing top 100 in the 250-300 runner Borders League races requires me to run at least as hard as I did on Sunday!

@HG - I did make sure I got back in time to cheer her up the hill (going uphill is not her strength, though she descends like a demon!). Plus she got chauffered to the race, chauffered home, what more could she want!

Not hilly at all but does have mile 8 to 10 off road until it joins the sea front for the last 3 miles and last year felt quite windy (about 20 mph according to my Garmin )

Good luck Clare

My latest sub 1 30 attempt is coming up on Sunday. I am reasonable happy with training which has been quite consistent for the last 3 months. I have also done a bit of swimming which I hope has improved my cardiovascular capacity. The weather conditions are looking good. 14 degrees at 7am. Wind could be a concern as about half the course is right by Moreton Bay. My legs aren't feeling as fresh as I would like (in part because of a sailing incident last weekend where they got bashed a bit) but with another 36 hours hopefully they will be fine.

Run well njosmith - how big is the race, any support in the way of pacers to help you through? Hope the things that luck can dictate work in your favour, everything else is under your control!!
