We have one of the plastic levers that pop the seal on a jar so you can open them, also have those circular rubber sheet things to give a better grip

I use rubber gloves to get a better grip - also good for Prosecco corks, which seem to need a bit of help compared to champagne corks.

We had to dig a Cava cork out with a skewer, so firmly was it stuck in.

Absolutely, Cyclops, but sometimes you need a bit of help in keeping the cork from twisting too!

Cava, champagne and what not, remember that you turn the bottle, not the cork.

Marks and Spencer's marmalade, the joy of popping the button I had a real wrestle with a fizzy wine cork at Christmas, several minutes worth. Certainly needed a drink by the time I won. (I was also in M&S today - it's not for me anymore ) |

We had all variety of expert drinkers attempting to get the cork out by various methods before resorting to the skewer approach. It took ages and we needed the drink by the time we got in. We had a second bottle but haven't been bothered to attempt to open it yet.

Definitely sounds like the sword method would be best next time then Cyclops.
