Fat Slow Lazy Hawk
Still fat and slow and can't be bothered changing it so guess lazy still counts. But did 30M last week so at least training a bit ;-)

PB in 2019 Joe will take you down to what...? Low 2:5x? Or are you aiming lower to 2:45 or below? That would be awesome! You've always made fab progress when you've found the method that works for you (huge mileage and multiple marathons and ultras, if I remember correctly!)

Lol at Bazo being fat. You look like a rake to me mate. But only we know what our own correct running/racing weight is, so my view is irrelevant. It's been very muggy out there, so don't berate yourself too much with a tough long run. Run done, that's the main thing! Curly, I can't imagine what London in 30C must be like for training.

Did a tiny, slow 4 miles before a gym class yesterday. Both felt incredibly hard. I can't believe I would have sore calves, knees or any other physical hangover from a Sat 9.30am parkrun (it was a full effort for where I am now, despite being marathon pace back in the day!) on a Monday evening, so 2.5 days later? Anyway, I shan't worry. Another plod (and they really are plods) somewhere at work today. Or, if I am let off dog sitting tonight, then maybe the club speed session. It's pyramids tonight. That could be a bit of a shock to the system! :-) G

Happy 2:45 has always been an aspiration. Lookinh at going with high mileage but more training and less events.

Thanks guys ! Joe a hot chicago was exactly why i've been doing my workouts in the heat (to my peril). I guess there is no harm to doing quality sessions when its cooler and long runs in the heat to acclimatize. The main issue i have with early starts is fueling. my stomach tends to be very unsettled in the mornings

Quick question - looking at new watch (Amazon Prime sale) - have vivoactive, want vivoactive 3 or 235... does anyone have one or other/ or which would you take? HR recovery stats important, I like the touch screen but is it worth another £30. Opinions?

I've got the VA3 Chris. Where to start - looks nice, I wear as every day watch. All the functions work well, most importantly for me it uploads and connects pretty reliably (not 100% but I think that is phone / Bluetooth as much as anything - I'm android not apple). I don't use many of the detailed functions - workouts etc. I just push start and stop mostly.

Here's the killer though - optical HR has been unreliable for me. But over on the HR thread they have reviews from 100% reliable (calibrated against HR chest strap ) to people having same experience as me. It seems like quite a personal thing - wrist size, skin, artery/vein location? Dunno. But annoying because HR is not reliable enough for me to take any account of in my progress or problems with running/training.

But I believe this would be the same for all Garmin and possibly all brands of optical HR? Good luck. Any specific Qs just ask away. :-) G

And no WW - new hobby isn't ballooning. I actually didn't like hot air balloon ride, the only time I've done it. I don't usually mind heights, but got a real panic feeling at a couple of points in the balloon. Lack of control was part of it, I think. Whereas in paragliding, you are in control and you've got lots to think about to keep your mind off the 000s of feet of thin air between your feet and the ground! :-) G

Cheers G. Yeah I will still have my strap anyway. I read the VA3 GPS isn't as good as the 235 one, but then the VA (the version 1) GPS is great for me, so hard to believe it's got worse. And elsewhere that the VA3 doesn't do heart rate recovery but the 235 does? Not sure I believe that.
