Baz - that's he 3000 mpa exception. Less miles, more speed, sub 3 this time....

Lark - here's a question for you then. How fast did you run the last 2 miles at Chester? Not faster than avg pace IIRC? If you were running too easy wouldn't those be your fastest miles or do we not think it works like that?

Re less miles, more speed for Baz? When does your next marathon cycle start? Is that the plan?

Re Larkim, I think sometimes you might have more left physically, but if you aren't sure mentally then the brain will put the breaks on and everything will feel harder than it actually is.

Yep, that's also what I tell myself WW. At that point, I couldn't have gone faster.

I am a sucker for the mental thing. I tried to overcome it today, but in general I cruise to the finish once I know my A goal is in the bag.

You did the right thing Larkim taking Chester “easy” as it was your first marathon. Given your half marathon PB maybe you should now focus on a 3hr spring marathon effort? Congrats by the way.

The fetch calculator usually forecasts sub 3 !

WW / SPR, mileager will be slightly down, but still 70-80 mpw at peak of the cycle. I know when I was touching 90 that I started to break, so need to operate under that level. I am doing an 18 week plan this time so starts mid December. Less miles for me doesnt equate to more speed. Following a JD plan which has plenty speed in there for me

Larkim - Wholly anecdotal but my mate (male aged 53) has a half PB of 85:40 which he did last last year - this year he did 87 mins at same race which he converted to 2:59 at Rotterdam this year so I think sub 3 is possible
