"we have had reports from a couple of runners saying they have been pushed and shoved aside by other runners."

So, was anyone actually pushed or did someone just say they were? Did they talk to the alleged pusher before posting online?

"Then the realisation that people ignore the briefing or just dont know left from right."

Yup, "passing on your right" doesn't mean turn around to look and then veer right - it means please stay where you are.

No individual has been accused of anything. I think it’s a case of if the cap fits, wear it. Hopefully no one needed it, but there is no harm in reminding runners of their responsibilities to look out for each other.

On an out and back course I attended, the RD clearly said, "please keep left" on several occasions during the briefing, and again before he set runners on their way.

Some groups of runners, taking up the entire path, seemed genuinely surprised to see faster runners coming back towards them, and on the left hand side as instructed.

Folk don't listen

I agree there is no need to push, apart from that time a kid tried to cut in front of me to avoid a puddle and ended up in said puddle after I put my arm up to block him...

Just had a look at the Blackpool discussion - It seems that the incidents are within the first 50 metres so despite some alluding it to being a 'pace issue' it is probably crowding at the start ( nice park from the recent video posted but, easy to see where some bunching at the start may occur ).

The one parkrun I attended where the starters were asked to seed themselves with the fast runners starting at the front and the slow ones at the back seemed to work really well. I do wonder why more events don't do it.

A good idea to start where you think you'll finish, but the gun time means that even slower runners understand that the further forward they start, the faster their time will be, so it can make for crowded and physical starts

Neal. Great when it works and everybody knows what pace they will run at and are happy to go along with the idea. I am looking forward to starting in the last wave of the London 10,000 on Monday due to an administrative error on my part. At least I have more time for my breakfast to settle :)

At one of our local events, if I'm running I'll wait right to the last minute and walk past the crowd straight to the front. I've had people complain to me about that - but it isn't a queue.
