Ooh, I find Lancaster hard (both to drive around & parkrun in)! Traffic should be OK around 9am though don't you think Andy? And, you can actually see the course from the M6 to build up anticipation!

I liked Keswick so much, even in the pouring rain, I made Mr HB walk the course the next day so he didn't miss out

Lancaster is great! Half tarmac half trail, mega fast downhill start which you spend the rest of the lap paying for as you have to get back up the hill again. Combo of openish town park and pretty wooded sections. Decent breakfast ciabatta in the cafe afterwards. Traffic and parking fine on a Saturday morning a couple of weeks ago. Not a PB course lol! Cuerdon also has a crazy downhill start, and a horrible uphill finish, and is pretty much up or down the rest of the time too. When I did it my opening 400m was at 4mm pace, and my finishing 'sprint' was at 9mm pace... |

Off M62: Dewsbury - not vertiginous but far from flat. Huddersfield - undulating and popular. Wakefield, even.

Let me think Baz - 6.5 hours driving instead of 2h50? Hmmmm... Keswick is just too far off the motorway for my sensible head - it's on my todo list, but only when we next head up for a weekend in the Lakes. Ditto for Fountains Abbey (though not the Lakes bit). Lancaster sounds appealing, as does Cuerdon. Some others worth considering too. Thanks all!! |

I don't remember having any trouble with the traffic at Lancaster, it was a few years ago though.

On consideration, I'll modify my previous comment regarding Lancaster traffic - getting to the parkrun for a 9am start should be OK if you're coming from the south. However, I stand by my previous experience based assertion that getting out to the north at 11am is likely to be horrible. I'll also reconfirm my view that this is a shame because the parkrun is lovely.

I’m a north east fetchie. Catterick is laps on the race course. The unique feature is the Gurkhas (running and volunteering). (I’ve never done it) Durham is lovely - on grass and paths with a lovely finish along the river. Gateshead is laps of Saltwell park. Lovely park with a few hilly bits. Windy nook is probably harder to find. On grass and mud mostly I think. The cafe afterwards in the community centre has free tea and coffee and cheap bacon butties. Newcastle is one lap on the town moor. Fairly fast course apart from a couple of bottleneck gates. Prudhoe riverside is 2 laps on a path by the river and through some trees. Scenic course. Gibside is beautiful and hilly in national trust property. |
