Nearly all my volunteering is in response to calls put out on Facebook.

Same here. We go out to the volunteers email list on WebFMS on Tuesday then out to Facebook on Wednesday. We don’t get a lot of volunteers via Twitter but we have someone who looks at it every day so would catch any people coming in that way as well.

We put out appeals on FB and Twitter but we don't accept responses that way. I'm not on FB, and I'm not the only one, so when it's my week as RD that couldn't work.

Its possibly a similar issue with cancellations then and I think we sort of went around this before. Personally, I look at the cancellations page (although strangely I dont see a menu item for it, similarly with special-events page - i just know the URL), I also look at the event page on parkrun and lastly I will check on twitter. Some arent users of this so recently I had to check on facebook as well (not a user but I can still see the front page of posts).

If I had a preference it would be for parkrun to allow users to sign up for event specific text notification for cancellations and/or late volunteer calls. That would catch most people. Last week due to weather issues affecting south west and south wales I watched several parkruns on multiple platforms so that I could be sure which one to make for. But that was entirely my choice as most people probably just keep an eye on the local one.

Linds, I am not sure you really want a way around this, but if you do, here's what we do. I created a phantom Facebook account for our parkrun. This account is only used to access and reply to Facebook. It is only set up on the parkrun laptop and it is kept logged in. We added it in as admin on our FB group so it can post as our parkrun. Therefore when one of our RDs doesn't have a FB account they just use the parkrun laptop and can view and reply to FB on behalf of our parkrun.

That's a brilliant idea, CW. Thanks. Some of my co-EDs are in at me to create a phantom account for parkrun and running club but I think that's a slippery slope. I do miss a lot of club stuff though.

Edison, well I wasn't going to go ape, after all they are volunteers and I can apply for a refund blah blah. It was just a bit off-putting and made it seem like the event was a bit of a clique for locals in the know. I didn't even realise there were parkrun pages on FB at that time, it's not like it was linked from the PR site.
