I'm an RD, and it's never even occurred to me (or my fellow RDs here) to mention the sponsors. I've only done about half a dozen others but never heard the sponsors mentioned. You could be a bit caught out if you routinely miss the briefing here - we will be changing from the summer course to the winter one soon, and we've also changed the course quite radically in the last couple of months. It's also polite to show your appreciation of the volunteers, IMO. |

We always do a big cheer for the volunteers and name them every week.

It would take too long to name all of ours but asking for a big cheer for them is pretty much the first sentence of the briefing.

We had 41 today (even I am amazed at that number) - it includes pacers and people who help with pre-event set-up and event close-down, as well as marshals, funnel managers, scanners, timekeepers etc.

In fairness the parkrun I run at the most was originally set up by staff members from a former parkrun sponsor which may explain why they tend to mention the sponsors. However I'm sure the most recent parkrun I did as a tourist did as well...

Years ago mentioning the sponsors used to be a thing in the run briefing but it isn’t any more.

What ndellar says. When I started in 2009 sponsors got thanked quite often, but haven't heard it done for years.

The first parkrun I went to was run by Sweatshop staff so they always mentioned Sweatshop and offered discounts if you went in with your barcode.

21 different parkruns and never heard sponosors mentioned. Important safety announcements and thanking of the volunteers, pretty much always. Would have been surprised if I didn't bother to attend my local run briefing after 100+ attendances the week they had to run it in reverse for safety reasons
