First Archbishop of U? required the use of the book of common prayer in the Anglican Communion.

Is probably closer if my guess on the BCP wasn't wrong :)

I used to work up the road from the lovely City church of St James Garlickhythe, which is (or at least was) the home of the Prayer Book Society. Like the Flat Earth Society only for Anglicans :)

I think this is a norty one, as there have been many authorised Books of Common Prayer in the Anglican church...

First Act of Uniformity required the use of the Book of Common Prayer in the Anglican Church?

But I haven't done church history...

I've 'done' Christian History as part of CCS, but only at a lay 50,000' level. In adition to the ubiquitous Lion book the other 'set text' was about forty pages long and wonderful. Can't for the life of me think what it was called - or at least not so that Amazon will give me a link to post...
