None of my family can give blood in NZ for the same reason (CJD). It was one of the drivers for me deciding to give blood here initially. I used to be terrified of needles. Got over that fairly quickly.

I had a refusal on Friday due to me having an enlarged lymph node on the back of my neck. I had a sore spot on my head and Dr thought it was connected. Spot no longer sore, lymph node still there but seems smaller. Blood service have suspended me until the lymph node is fine but I have to ring the medical line to be reinstated. Very frustrating but I guess they have to be careful.

I've had to cancel my donation today because I'm a biohazard, but have rebooked for 16th May. That's 20 days before a 10k race, which should be enough time to recover.

Good news! After a nine year hiatus I'm now allowed to start giving blood again. I'm booked in for early July. I've not had a custard cream in all this time... |

My wife gave #63 this week. Embarrassingly, I have never given. Unlike myself, she has never run a marathon. So far, she leads the series 63-50. First to one hundred!
