Winter Beast 6.66 mile run at St Aidan's RSPB nature park. Saw a swan and heard a goose honk - assume that all the birds with any self-respect at all were safely tucked away from the run route.

Chrisity, in the last couple of years I've noticed a lot more lesser black-backed gulls inland. It seems they are taking the same path as herring gulls and black-headed gulls before them. A couple of weeks ago I saw a big flock of hundreds of them standing in a field, all facing the same direction - quite a sight!

The dunnock was back today. And 2 pigeons. Dunnock sat on the feeder for a bit, so I've put some more seed out lower down for it as well. Very happy that its returning as other will hopefully follow

Roberto, it’s interesting that you use the term “the” about the dunnock. We refer to “the” dunnock too. We’ve only ever seen two at one time on one occasion.

not a bad count today, down on bluetits from last year but up on goldfinch and the LTTs turned up just in time - couldn't quite count if there were 6 or 8 though, so I put 7 on the form.
Robins seem to be having a shout about territory :)

I'm trying to get the wayward ivy and honeysuckle from a wall before they start nesting in it again - if it doesn't revert to winter temperatures soon I'm going to struggle to have time - there was a robin having a right shout at me when I started yesterday. I wish it could stay there for them, but it's really out of hand and making using the side passage almost impossible.

Eynsham, I think it's likely because since we moved in back in may (it's a new build estate), other than one pigeon and a family of magpie, we havent seen any other birds other than a single dunnock (a few weeks ago) which I think was blown into the garden due to a storm. So I'm just assuming it's the same one as it knows there is food here.

Went out to Hoylake on Sat as there was a high high tide at a sensible time (11:30, nicely timed for parkrun) to see the waders pushed inshore. 1000s of Oyks, knot and dunlin, with a fair scattering of redshanks, curlew and sanderling, and the odd grey plover.

Spent the rest of the day at Parkgate being treated to a display from the SEOs, hen harriers, and a nicely perching Merlin.

I’ll bore you with photos later!
