That's more or less what I did last year, NJ. I peaked at 5km but I honestly think 4k would do it for the swoosh. I did all my power/technique in the pool last year but with a season pass at BE it makes sense to do more of it there really.

I'm doing as you said NJ with the exception that so far my longest swim has been in the pool. Tomorrow I want to be in the lake for over an hour as that is my max in the lake so far and I'm also concerned about being in the cold water for longer as well as being capable of the distance. You and SS shouldn't be as concerned about that as me because you guys have done a lot more cold and cope better with cold than I do. I'm also planning a sea swim next week which I hope will also build my confidence with coping with cold. |

I'm aiming to build up the distance and am confident I'll do an open-water 4-5k at a relaxed pace before Swoosh. However, after a shoulder op a couple of years ago ("you may never swim front-crawl again") I'm not sure whether to work on speed and power as well. My thoughts are Box End for distance and the pool for power. I'm not bothered about the cold but will need to practice with a wetsuit again.

And I'm noticeably slower than all of you, which shows the benefit of all your winter training.

Turns update, 4 lengths, 3 turns (2 deep 1 shallow) = 100m continuous. Went for 150 but screwed up turn 4 (shallow). Later bashed coccyx on bottom of learner pool when showing daughter how (not) to handstand. Ouch. |

I’m very pleased with my 2.9km yesterday at the lake. 3 would have been nice though!

35mins in the sea off Felixstowe. Unexpectedly rough sea as winds were not that strong but temp a bit more tolerable compared to last week

My coach has changed my pull phase to really make great use of the good timing I have in the rest of my stroke....this however means I have dropped around 10 secs per 100 which while is frustrating is also a little encouraging in such a small loss being 12 weeks out from the main event. Asking what others have found in time wise to adaption in seeing improvements and efficiency?

And reading that again makes no sense.....what I mean is how long before people saw improvements

I got 2.75km, Elsie, and am actually really pleased with how my body held up. I'll aim for 3 full laps at the end of next week I think.... Box End was lovely last night, 19 degrees apparently, weed was not too much bother in the big lake and although it was really busy with swimmers I still had all my own space. Very clear and loads of fish, including a really rather massive one...pike maybe? |
