I think you should rant. Lane etiquette is v. important.

I think I just find myself being really careful that if I'm much slower than someone I'm in a lane with, I will be super careful about allowing them past at the end, and also not setting off just ahead of them, I don't find that other pool users are as careful. I plumped for medium lane today, which at my usual pool would be spot on for me, and there were definitely some masters swimmers in the fast lane doing a very structured, watching the clock type session, so I didn't want to intrude on that. One person in the slow lane. Someone joined me in the medium lane and they were using a breaststroke arms, no kick technique. They may have had very good reason not to kick and I have no problem *at all* with swimming slowly or slower than me BUT they set off just ahead of me twice rather than letting me go past them. The masters swimmers got out and I popped in to the fast lane for the second half of my swim and all was well.

The pool has a very different feel to it. Not worse or better than my usual pool, but different.

Totally empathise with that one Katie, I hate it when someone who's much slower than me pushes off just in front. It sort of forces you into expending loads of effort to get past them, that's assuming the lane traffic allows it :-(

Odd, we also have a gent who turns up every now and again and does the breast stroke/no kick thing. it's a little strange to watch. Like you, I have absolutely no problem with that but is very "needy" in terms of space and quite often he's been in the next lane to me and reached under the dividing rope and hit me. Totally unintentional of course, but irritating.

That's (one of) my pet hates, Katie. I find myself watching people when they get in and wondering whether they are one of *those* people. It feels like a personal attack 'I'm faster than you'. Even when they aren't. Grrr..... and then I find any stress-busting effect from the swim is replaced by irritation at that person who won't accept that I'm faster than them. It's probably just common-or-garden rudeness.

Can I repost what I said on the'Smell' thread a couple of weeks ago...

'I swam. But mostly I fumed at the sheer bad manners of a bloke who simply would not give way to me, and quite deliberately, several times, moved off his line so I couldn't overtake. The lifeguard sat watching the whole thing but said not a word.

Roll on 29th March when the Lido reopens.

I had my own lane etiquette issue this morning though unfortunately I was at fault. I was passing a slower swimmer, I looked up to see if the third person in the lane was coming the other way. There weren't, so I went for it. Soon after we were swimming into each other. Although she was yet to turn when I checked, I later realised she was wearing fins so she was swimming much faster than I expected. She was not happy to have the lap interupteded.

At our pool you’re only allowed to wear fins if you’re in a club session, controlled by coaches.
