cackle, when Stef trained for her Bob Graham she was in Southampton and did ‘hill reps’ in the back (fire exit?) staircase of her office block at lunchtime. I think she built up to around 40 flights ( she should have done 42 ;-) ) and dropped a paper clip in a sandwich box after each rep. Funny thing was when she moved up to live with me near Ilkley in Wharfedale she was really concerned she’d lost the opportunity to do the stairs

Would you believe I live in a bungalow and the stairs in my office block aren't great!

My nearest real hill is approx 1.7 miles away, but that would serve as a nice little warm up. There are three hills together making a little triangle which each slope slightly different. I have considered in the past using them for hill reps, but it's always been too busy with cars to be safe. Now is the time to try it out!

That is some serious training dedication for Stef, but obviously 42 reps would have been the answer :)

Could a backpack, suitably weighted, replicate the effort of hills? Just a thought.

'Walking' a Marathon @ 4mph would see it done in 6 hr 33 min.

Kerrie Eldridge finished the 2019 London Mara in 9 h 11 min.

Our notional 6:33 runner would have had 1492 others behind her or him.

It would certainly help Swittle. I think the best thing for maintaining leg strength are things like lunges, step ups/step downs etc. Yuk.

I do have some proper hills, but they're about 5 miles away. I can see them while I'm trotting round the field. *sigh*

I watched a YouTube thing last night about an American lady, Courtney Deuwalter (?) and she won a 200 mile ultra with an average speed of 4mph. It was incredible.

Have a look at the 200 Squat Challenge cackle. I keep flirting with it then backing off again. I WILL complete it (again) before this none-sense is over

Ha, just dropped 50 without hardly raising my heart rate. Puts me over 'excellent' category for my age... Could easy do another 20 before it starts hurting.
I am the Queen of Squats. :P

Maybe we could start some more alternative streaks of lunges, squats, chin ups ? Etc
