It might have been the most important, but Townsend’s was the best, as per the vote.

What I liked best about Kompany was his flowing hair. Congratulations on a fine career but he should have had a red card for his kung fu foul on Salah. |

Kompany had time to size his shot up v. Leicester as the defenders backed off. Townsend had to keep his eye on the ball as it dropped and he hit it much harder; therefore his technique was far better. So for Lineker and Shearer to give the nod to Kompany just because of the occasion is a joke.

One of the best top flight goals I have seen scored was at a game that wasn't televised. It was 1981 and Steve Lovell scored for Palace v. Birmingham with a scissor kick volley from the right side of the penalty area that went like a rocket into the opposite top corner.

I don’t remember that one, Phil, although I was almost certainly there. The Best goal I ever saw that wasn’t televised was Jim Cannon’s in a 4-1 win over Ipswich which took Palace to the top of the old Division 1. A fine team move which Cannon started in defence and finished with a volley from the edge of the box.

Yes, I was there too, Dio. A great team goal as far as I remember against one of the best teams at the time who we beat 4-1. Gerry Francis' twice-taken penalty was also only 2/10 that Paul Cooper conceded that year. Not a Premier League goal, but Darren Ambrose's long-range effort v. Man Utd in the League Cup was also exceptional. |

Not seen that one. I'll have a look on YouTube a bit later. I don't mind grass roots fans and those who support their local teams. It's the glory hunters I can't stand. |
