a question for future reference... if the water gets too warm then some tris ban the use of wetsuits. so in those circumstances, what can you wear? is it strictly swimwear only? what about long leg jammers - would they be allowed? short leg jammers??

Hi Gordon, usually in a non-wetsuit swim its a 'nothing below the elbow or below the knees' rule, so short sleeve tri suits/tops and above the knee shorts/jammers. you can swim in jammers, but most people would swim in trisuit or equivalent

Right here goes. I've finally got my swimming to a level where I feel confident enough? to enter my first sprint tri and I've been looking at Bassetlaw in August which seems to be aimed at novices as well as the more experienced. So a few questions from a man on a budget if you don't mind. Apologies is these may appear a bit dumb ass but:- 1) Do I swim in my trunks and then simply put a tri suit over to be worn for both the bike and run? 2) Do waves of swimmers (based on time) set off together? Are you expected to dive in to start? Roughly how may folk can I expect to be swimming in the same pool lane at the same time? 3) I've not got a tri suit yet but they have a reasonably priced one in decathlon. Would anyone recommend other budget makes? 4) What if anything do you wear on your feet from pool side to bike transition? 5) I've got a Trek road bike but its nothing special more of a tourer/winter trainer. Its got thin mudguards. As its a real pain to remove and re fit are these ok left on? 6) Apart from my swim trunks, goggles, tri belt for number, bike/helmet/bike shoes/glasses/bottle/repair kit and running shoes. Are there any other essentials? Any other advice will be much appreciated, Thanks. |
