Thanks icenutter, i'll have a listen. It sort of explains why i've been having such a tough time during this training cycle and i've already started taking iron supplements.

Feeling well knackered here too and not entirely sure why. A moderately long hilly run on Sunday (but very gentle paced) and then a hard 50 mins on Monday left me wholly incapable of completing the club hill interval session last night. Struggled again on an easy run this morning. Hope I'm just a bit tired but don't feel I've done enough to justify that.

Anyway, just got some gentle jogging to do between now and Saturday's half marathon (and at least there's a decent forecast for that). If I can't do ok at that it will be time to panic!

Hmm can't really pretend that 1:24:46 is decent! I'd expected a minute quicker and hoped for 2...no excuses, ran a decent race but just not fit enough. Perhaps not quite as flat and fast a course as I'd hoped for. 7th overall and 2nd codger, I think I'd usually beat the guy who took the V50 prize. Can't take much positive from that but still got the glimmer of a chance that 4 solid weeks could make an impact.

Four solid weeks can definitely have a positive impact jda.

Tough that one jda, was it just not your day or do you think there’s something fundamentally missing?

1:28 half, a PB, for me at the Great North Run. I had enough endurance, but hadn't done many tempo runs, so had to back off the pace a bit after 10k or so as I was over my threshold.

I've a trail half in a few weeks time, then the XC season, but next goal race is the Brass Monkey half in January. I'm going to target 1:25, as a springboard to a spring marathon.

Good one icenutter.

Chris, I think perhaps it's just a fair assessment of where I slipped to over the summer. I was hoping for a better conversion from my 18:20 5k 3 weeks ago (virtually a PB for me) but to be fair that was a super-fast course with a strong field whereas the HM was probably a bit of an average course and relatively sparse at the front. However I did always have someone in sight and passed 4 in the 2nd half so it was just enough to keep my effort honest.

I'll fit in 4 more 20-milers (not doing Vale of York HM now: no point really) and hope for the best :-)

Can't really justify the distance/time of the drive when I can just run out the door. I'd have done it if it was the only option of a race but found out about the Ayr race just after entering it...

Have to wait until York marathon to say hello :-)
