Treadmill wise: I set up a saved search for 'collection only' on ebay, then put in low bids whenever anything came up. Eventually I got a nice Nordictrack one for a pittance.

A treadmill in the garage would be nice, just need to get a garage first! Week 1 of 18 completed for me, 50m total, a 16m long-run and a 37.42 10km (fast course and conditions). Haven't felt in amazing form, but happy with all of that as a starting point. |

My formal plan starts next Monday, but I do feel like I will be starting from a pretty good point and at least as good if not better than in some previous years. I had a very tough in the wind parkrun on Saturday and then just under 21 miles yesterday. |

Good to hear people starting to ramp up. How do I pace my first session which has 4 miles at half marathon pace? I’m not in the shape I’d want to be So doubt I’ll be cracking our 4 miles at 5.45 pace. |

Chris, that is something I find very hard also. partly as I rarely hit the tempo paces I think I should in training and also I have in mind a pace I am not quite capable of. There is also the weather which can impact. I think that you should start out accepting that you wont be hitting the desired paces yet, but working towards that over the period. |

In your situation I'd run it at around threshold effort Chris, whether that works out at 6 m/mile or whatever that'll probably give the desired training benefit.

I'd go for HM effort.

At this point I'm just running "hard" (when it's called for) and the pace is what it is. Benchmarking is by comparison with last year or the previous similar session, not the absolute speed achieved.

Chris i'd probably go at a little slower than threshold or HM pace. i'm unable to "easily" hit my threshold paces at the moment also.
