57.5 Degrees of Pain
I raced a 10 miler today and was very happy getting close to 62 mins. Managed to win the old man bling too as the runner who is usually well ahead of me is coming back from injury. The advantages of being old and currently uninjured! Did lose out to Ally C in the Fetch smackdown by a few seconds though. |

I failed - no 2.54.xx for me yesterday at Yeovil but I did manage 6th place (overall), 1st woman and a 22 second PB so I guess I'll just have to keep chipping away at it. No excuses, it just wasn't there on the day.

I saw your result elsewhere LMH and noted that you were being a little hard on yourself there too. I hope that you don't really see that as a failure? A PB in an summer marathon as part of a victory?! Sounds like a fantastic result to me which is reward only for your dedicated training approach. Super well done! I bet you're thinking about which mara next already, I hope you can find time for a rest 1st though! |

Hey LMH, a PB and a win - things don't get much better than that! Especially at your level every few seconds of improvement must be quite a struggle. Wish I could fail like that I know you like the warmth but I bet it was a bit on the hot side too. |

I'm not really being hard on myself WW - it's just that I a chasing that 2.54 time and didn't get it - and I really think that I could/can and yes, trying to decide which to do next:-) It didn't feel that warm jda - I think it was 17/18C at the start and only 20ish by the time I finished so not ideal but not hot, hot, hot either. I know that to take 22 seconds off at my level/age is good - but I need to find another 17! |

20ish here and I can hardly walk to the shops without pausing for a rest Anyway that's a big improvement on Boston (which was hardly poor) and you can surely expect to find those few secs next time you have a decent event.

Evening All. Some impressive reading on here! First week of my training block for York. I'm doing the P&D up to 55mpw. I think realistically my mileage tolerance is slightly higher but not high enough to attempt the higher mileage versions. I was thinking of just adding miles to my long runs to top up a bit. I'd be interested to hear whether or not people think this sounds like a sensible approach...Cheers.

Fordy - check the last few pages of the 3:15 thread. We just had a long debate in best way to modify the p&s schedules. You might be faster than us guys on there but I think the principles are the same.

Fordy, do you mean add it to your long-runs at the start of the block so you're at higher distances sooner - or adding it throughout? If I recall correctly P&D suggest adding extra mileage to the general aerobic sessions, which seems sensible. Not that I'm in a position to give advice, but I also think turning one of those into a mid-week, medium long-run 10-15 miles can help. |
