We must be lucky in the east, the roads are fine but the wind is bloody cold.

20 miles done with 14 @ mp felt ok after an 85 mile week. Planned the route so the first few easy miles were into the wind to make life a bit easier.

Rest day tomorrow I think after a 17 day streak

A slow 13.1 mile plod for me in lieu of Alloa Half. P&D had called for 18 miles (with 14@MP), but I just couldn’t be arsed to hit the pace or cover the full distance. In honesty, I reckon the wind and snow wasn’t nearly as big a factor as my own attitude was this morning.

Just under 20 for me. At times lovely at times brutal.

I agree Fergus, attitude is everything - I decided as I was out running that I could talk myself into or out of anything so despite the carp conditions I stuck it out for the 20 but if your head isn't in it it's just not happening.

Chris - there's no way I was hitting any sort of pace this morning, staying upright was as good as it got in places.

Well done for getting the miles in Baz.

jda - when you have a chance would you change the header please? I'm not going to do London this year, Boston (Lincs) for me on the 15th instead.

Interesting how Reading is mostly getting abuse on twitter for the late cancellation whereas Wilmslow is getting kudos and sympathy for trying to put it on. I won't make any comment about north v south.

Must admit I was getting a bit stressed last night about the travel + wind + snow until I realised that I'd already done a 10k and two halves recently so didn't really need another race. Just did 25k on the treadmill at 2:45 schedule, I think the tready is a bit generous with speed but it was certainly easier (and much lower HR) than the 20k at 2:50 pace I did 7 weeks ago so that's looking reasonably positive. Still have to pluck a number out of thin air for Mancs but it's looking like I ought to just set off on 2:45 pace and see what happens. The odds are against it but I would be annoyed to cruise round at 2:48 and get to the end feeling I could have gone harder.

Fordyboy, 3 weeks to go for you too, how are your plans?

Nice running guys n gal, I got out for another hour of gutter running; 90% in bus lanes or along the kerb, skating along the pavements for the other 10%, very happy with the pace e for the heart rate and a lot of elevation as well.

JDA I'd love you to make that sub 2:45 and think you're right to take that approach, you've gone sub 2:50 and your training is certainly pointing to 2:45 being a strong possibility so why the hell not give it a shot. From your analysis you know the HR that you shouldn't be breaching so you can always drop off slightly if you get into the 'danger zone'.

I'm planning a similar approach with monitoring the HR and keeping it at levels I think (from previous marathon) I can hold. Im still not sure where that will put me come marathon day but if I don't take a chunk out of my PB something has gone wrong. My half next Sunday will be a real litmus test of where I am, I don't think I've raced anything (parkruns included) as hard as I can for a while but I'll be giving it full beans and looking forward to seeing what happens. I'll not be tapering for it as such, and am planning another long pre-work run on Thursday but at a very easy pace/effort.

Tough decision jda, I have to admit I’ve had similar thoughts. A 2.48/47 would be awesome but would leave me wondering what if I’d gone out harder.

I just don’t think I have it in me for a 2.45 so will aim for the safer target. I’ve fallen off badly at 20 miles so know going off too fast isn’t good for me

Agree, 2:45 would be awesome, but with that you need to accept the risk of not getting the 2:48, or even the PB. Only you know how big a risk that is and if its one you can go with.

What Baz said is pretty much bang on what I said on your blog.

Here's what I put...

Have a bash at 2:45 I say! Then again that's easy for me to say.

You have 2:51 from last year, how gutted would you be if you went for 2:45 but ended with a worse time than your PB? If not bothered then got for it, if you would be gutted then shoot for 2:48 and I'm sure you can get that.
