I believe you can get slightly faster bashing out weekly parkruns, but the less is more approach will see bigger improvements

My best parkrun came out of the blue, wasn't targeting anything, it just happened. I was in pretty good shape though and I guess I tuck in behind someone fast and got dragged along. I thought I could get back there, but i've never beaten it yet!

There is that approach too CW - let someone else do all the work... If you did it once you can get back there though.

My parkrun PB came the day before my 10-mile PB. I knew I was on form and went for it. It'll never be repeated as it was on the old Workington course, which was flatter and less twisty than the current one.

Having run what I knew was a good time, I discovered I'd dropped my barcode out on the course and had to run nearly 3 miles out and back to find it on the verge near the halfway point. I keep one in the car now.

were you not tired the next day for your 10 miler? I know you PBd, but if it was me I'd be wondering how much faster I might have been in the 10 miler without a quick 5k in my legs. Or were you happy enough with back-to-back PBs

Similar for my best ever CW, found myself up with a couple of clubmates who usually pull away from me during races, stayed tucked in behind them and couldn't believe the time when I looked at my watch.

Back when I was `trapped' by parkrun, I ran Ashton Court, which is brutal, and next day ran 39:10 for a 10k, which was a huge PB for me at the time. But I was absolutely wrecked on the 10k, so vowed to ditch parkrun if ever chasing a big PB again

Getting older and running marathons are wrecking my parkrun times. No time for speed training, intervals, threshold or anything I think would make me faster, mostly recovery and trying to get over minor injuries.
I haven't been able to keep up with my son (15) for a couple of years now, who is just a few seconds off breaking 20mins. My PB was back in 2015 with a 21:18, but 23 is my best this year.
I have over a month till my next race, so now it's time to work on core strength and flexibility and build my fitness back. I'll see what happens by Christmas.

I wasn't at all worried, edison. My history of being able to recover well between races on consecutive days didn't suggest I should rest up or run sedately at parkrun if I wanted to run a good race the following day, and I had more than 24 hours between finishing my extended cool-down and starting the 10-miler.

I've just done the same 10-mile race. Due to visiting family, on Saturday I had a very sedate run of exactly parkrun distance with my daughter instead of going to parkrun. I was almost four minutes slower in the race.

My brief forays into NML came with increased training, largely for HMs, in the bit after the HM.

I've not been in nml (or even close) for a while, recently being over 16 :-o minutes outside it. I'm now over 50% of that gap back to 25 ... I have the feeling that the second half will be a lot harder to cover than the first.
