We haven't yet had the issue either but again we would use county and regional relays as a qualifier if necessary.

Despite overnight rain, no spikes required today in Manchester, which I was grateful for as I found the hard stony sections tough in spikes with my lack of knee lift, especially when I get tired.

Solid run, about 30s faster than last year but conditions were much easier too. Also notable for being my better half's debut XC race since high school and she ran well despite finding out after half way that her shoes don't really fit that well!

I enjoyed maccl today too larkim. As good as conditions will ever be for xc. Dodgy Knee held up to it too.

Birmingham Div 1 first fixture today. I think I raced as planned and wasn't on the limit. Unfortunately third time (last lap) into the water triggered a stitch. Slowed down and managed to get back up to speed again quickly but it came back with a vengeance in the finishing 200m and instead of taking more places as expected, I lost a few of the places I'd gained as I worked through the field. Still the main test for me is how my body reacts over the next 48 hrs *fingers crossed*.

I saw footage of that ditch on FB - proper XC there SPR!

The best thing about the absence of mud was not having to hose down all my boys (and my wife and me!) after the races. Interesting course in the sense that you basically have to follow the leader through some of single track stuff, tactically surge past if you wanted to avoid being held up in those areas and then use the open sections to gain (or lose!) places.

Larkim.

My lot ran the course beforehand and few opted for their short spikes...they all said today was harder than it looked.

The thing is, when the conditions are “easy”, they are easy for everyone. So the pace was quite hot. So its hard!

It definitely seemed to be an advantage to not be wearing them on the hard pack stuff.

North Mids XC at Kettering today, Ladies race in heavy rain which stopped just as the Men started. Fairly easy course with a bit of mud, slippery in places especially at a couple of sharp corners. On second lap caught up with a Notts Uni student, and realised he was running in road shoes. That could be a bit tricky i thought, and thirty seconds later over he went.
