Are there many EA members who aren't club members? Don't even know if that's possible?

I'm saying you don't need to be a member of a club in the county to do the Warwickshire or Worcestershire county champs, you may need to be a member of a club but not necessarily a club in the county.

XC generally needs EA membership so I presume you need to be a club member.

Ah yes, sorry if I misunderstood!

I had imagined actually that county champs would welcome all comers, partly because we often see Tri clubs etc entering the champs locally.

I get the thread moved off this topic but the guardian now has a piece on it if any fancy signing the petition. Ive signed as the league I joined as always had a one combined race for all abilities. I find doing the county races and southern really destroys the club atmosphere as while you can support each other normally by the time the men (normally me) are finishing everyone else has gone home. In our combined league we start finish run and socialise pack up together. Segregation is not needed.

True FH, but as I understand it many of the women like to run as a separate race so that the leaders aren't mixed up with a load of blokes with potential for drafting/pacing controversies. Running as one race would sort out the "marshals out for too long" argument though and bring it into line with big road races which the campaigners point to as the ideal to aspire to.

I signed the petition. There's reasons why individuals would prefer longer or shorter distances but don't see a reason for blanket shorter distances for women from young girls upwards.

Just back from our Club's XC race in our new League. Last year we ran in the Birmingham League (men) and WMCCL (women) and rarely ran at the same venues and never at the same time. Race numbers were huge and comments were made about the slower runners at the back (ie men's races suggested a cut-off time of 60 minutes for 10k, but failed to recognise that most of the men at the back of their races were seasoned club runners who had put decades into the sport and were still turning out to run for their clubs). This year we have joined a new league which is in itself new, so at the moment numbers are low but the key thing is that men and women run together. Today's race was just short of 5 miles (two laps of an equestrian xc course complete with "water feature"), with some very competitive running by both men and women at both the front and the back! I don't know how the league would be seen by EA (in terms of meeting all the race rules and regs), but I know which races I prefer. Horses for courses and all that (and that was definitely the case today!).

We had almost 500 women yesterday split over 2 divisions, plus a good couple of hundred juniors girls. Amazing.

I was rubbish, but still recovering from a bug. Depressing to be 30 places down on where I was in October. Amazingly competitive even in 48th place :-O

North Mids at Wollaton for me on Saturday, on the opposite, much easier side of the park than the National last year. Each of the 3 laps also included about half a mile on tarmac paths which is a bit of a cheat. Still, it also meant 3 times up the dirty great hill to the house so hard work none the less. My best ever XC race by far but only good enough for 139th :-)
