Ah well, I’d better just keep sticking to the plan then!

Any sense from anyone on the white rose'd side of the Pennines what the mood music is around races re-starting, and the likelihood of this taking place? Small local races are starting up quite actively in the NorthWest it seems at the moment, but nothing on the scale of a city marathon just yet, with Chester and Manchester pre-emptively cancelled. London of course sends a big signal...

Hmm, I’m not sure what people are thinking in Yorkshire but my own confidence in the race happening has lowered to the point of entering another race (max field 350, wave starts) and cancelling my York hotel. The difference between what’s currently allowed (e.g. Podium 5k sized fields in secluded locations) and a city-based 10,000-person marathon seems too great to bridge in 2 months. |

Is it that big an event? I thought it was smaller than that, but nonetheless your thinking is the same as mine; though with £50 on the entry fee still hanging around I'm not tempted to book anything else.

Lucky I only wrote 10,000 here rather than saying it under oath: on reading the actual article instead of just the headline... it’s 10,000 people who took part in the “festival” in 2019, so some of them in the 10 mile and other events, which apparently included carrying boats.

About 4000 last year. They'd have to do something quite radical about the start for sure, I personally think it's probably past the point of what is going to happen by early Oct. Conversely I have a half marathon with 500 starters in the open countryside, I reckon that will be able to go ahead (assuming things don't get markedly worse) if the organisers put the effort in. Eg we could do waves of 20-50 at minute intervals, it wouldn't take that long. With chip timing there is no reason to all bunch up before the start if there is sufficient room for people to spread out.

I don’t want to run it next year, but can hardly claim to be surprised about the cancellation. Wrexham it is...

Let's hope we can race by then. I wonder how many will follow London in scheduling straight to autumn.
