Spikes aren't that expensive, so I'd get a range of sizes, so you can adjust them for any conditions - eg. you really don't want to be using long spikes in frozen ground.

You can get spikes as long as 15mm. I can't imagine when you'd use them. If the mud is that deep then you'd be better off in wellies!

I've used my Nike Zoom Waffles on track with 6mm spikes for Fetch miles. I love them.

Spikes have got more expensive this year? Or maybe I'm just more flash than I was in 2011, seem to have the most garish on offer!

Anyway, I wear 6mms for track, 9s for dry cross, 12s for mud and just bought some 15s just in case. All the gear and no idea!

"9mm is good enough for dry grass or a little wet." was all I was going to add, but Willymo's post covers it (I do exactly the same), and everything else has been covered.

I've never understood why XC spikes come with 6mm spikes, lol.

They don't stay frozen for long though, after 200+ men go round 3 times, lol.

Got something to say?
