That was intense

(There was a perpetual on the cards which was surely what Ian was playing for and then Ding gambled on keeping the game going)

Better than resigning in a won position :-)

That was fun.

For once the issue for Nepomniachtchi was time trouble.

At the time Magnus won in 2013 and then jumped into the hotel swimming pool afterwards felt great. A shaking up of the old conventions

But at the same time I'm looking forward to the era of Ding. He's very much a chess champion in the old style: quiet, modest, reserved. The bromance with Rapport was a bonus. A geek has won. I guess we won't see him modelling for G-Star anytime soon ;-)

They're all going to be in action in the Grand Chess Tour next week, whoa. (Not Carlsen though)

Anyone watching the current Champions Chess Tour? A weird format with lots of repetitive rounds between the same players. The final is So v Carlsen.

This afternoon I saw a twitter exchange between So and Caruana, joking about prepping 1.b3 (So played it in the semifinal just to mix things up). So has just played it in is first game against Magnus :-)

I've seen some game summaries. The format is a bit like tennis with sets.

I’ve found it quite a watchable format for Rapid games, helped by interesting commentators, but only having 8 players isn’t ideal when they play each other in more than one round.

My favourite expert is David Howell, Magnus’s chum.
