Flossie gives every sign of intending to catch a squirrel but if there's any danger she actually might get it she either slows down or swerves away :-)

George, like Wanda, knows exactly what to do if he ever catches anything. Fortunately, the squirrels are too quick for him and the only rabbits he's ever caught had mixy and he put them out of their misery very quickly.
Cats, however, I don't wish to talk about ....

Wanda was declared 'in very good nick for her age' when we made our first visit to the vets we've changed to from our old practice. They are a little further away than the one we were registered with but they do their own out of hours and although we hope we won't ever have to use that service again we didn't like having to travel some considerable distance to unfamiliar places because the old vets don't do it in house any more.

However perhaps the injections to make her sick have had some lasting memory with her - it took one vet pulling on the lead and a nurse pushing from behind to get Wanda into the consulting room - and then when they were finished it was like a brindle bullet flying out of there back to me with a hapless vet hanging on for dear life to the lead. We wanted a second opinion on whether the big lump on Wanda's head needs to be removed and the view is that it doesn't and isn't causing her any problems - other than looking like she's in a Tom & Jerry cartoon!

Anyone got experience with disc issues. Following an X-ray then specialist looking at the X-ray they’ve said he has damaged a disc a while back. They’ve said there is no point doing an MRI and surgery not required but he might need to be on meds forever. If he does it again it could be nerve damage. No more chasing a ball or stick.

Oh no poor Ernie.

Geordiegirl had something like that happen to her dog a few years ago (nerve damage) and had hydrotherapy/physio

I dropped Albie off at the dog boarding this morning. He was excited to get there but cried when I left. I’m hoping it goes well. I’m now stuck on a plane that has a dent in it because the baggage truck hit the plane 🤦‍♀️ waiting for it to be fixed.

Hopefully Albie is having a fantastic time now and has forgotten that he was even crying at all.

Poor Ernie - can't offer any particularly helpful advice I'm afraid. Does he jump on and off things like sofas a lot though as that may be something to keep an eye on - a family member's dog some years ago had a back problem and was advised not to let the dog jump onto sofas/into or out of the car etc but I have no idea if the problem was the same as Ernie's.

We are now dog owners. Yes, we have half a share in George but he lives with my Mum.
We now have a cocker spaniel called Maisy who arrived last night. Her owners have moved to Abu Dhabi (because of his new job) and it's no place for a spaniel who has grown up in England so we offered to take her on. She's 11 so very 'mature' and a sweet-natured, placid girl. We have been for lots of walks with her previously and she stayed for a week in August so she knows us a bit already.

George is slightly disgruntled but we will still exercise him and love him lots, of course.

I'll post a photo when I've got a decent one.

Congratulations on the new arrival SW!

I think elderly dogs have a certain charm. Looking forward to seeing photos!
