apparently fig rolls are the new jaffa cakes for footballers. I have been trying them on runs, they seem to work well ie they do not give me the trots. I bet they have quite a lot of carbs and are quite portable as well.

fair enough.

I just eat whatever I want & never give it much consideration - that said I eat pasta 4 times a week but I always have, although since I started running 4.5 years ago I have lost a bit of weight.

i think what i mean is that i am going to try and think about what i eat in general rather than just thinking about what i will eat whilst i am running - gels - to keep me going
you need a base to build on

fig rolls have a bit of fruit in though!!

L, have you read up on how much carbs you need whilst running as well so you can work out your gel strategy?!! I think I read it was 30-60g per hour.

If you're dong a large volume of training then 6g / kg is about right, then 8-10 on carb loading days (sounds like that's what you're doing if you're increasing your intake in the lead up). On the day, daily intake isn't as important as getting a large quantity of carbs in before the race (ie. the 130g you were recommended for example). After the race, you only need to worry about replenishing stores if you're not planning lots of exercise for the following day, your appetite will sort it out.

I just try to eat generally more carbs in the few days before, and for me pasta works. Race breakfast is always toast 4 slices!

I am going to try a fry up before Gloucester. I may regret it!
