....having a bit of a downer after tonights lesson. Dont think ill ever get the hang of it enough to do a triathlon, which is what i really want to do. Running and cycling you can 'do' no matter how poor your technique, it will just take longer, but with swimming its different. If you cant get the hang of it you just wont be able to get anywhere.
GGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRR.............AAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!

i needed that.

It's certainly one of those "plateau" things. Youo work and work and work at it and it doesn't get any better for what seems like ages.

Then it clicks, and you wonder what all the fuss can have been about.

Don't give up. You could well be nearly there.

i totally understand ur frustration about swimming and like you i have the ambition of participating in a triathlon one day but my swimming needs a lot of improvement b4 i can sign up for it.

my problem is co-ordination with all my limbs and breathing at the same time!

But you will, Island. Are you doing the hard breathing out underwater?

Try the Jules Rules article, too. It might help a bit.

ISland, I think the trick is that while you're learning learn, don't expect to exercise. When you pressure yourself into doing a distance you can't keep your breath to begin with.

And having a big breather each length is fine, if it means you can then get another length done properly.

I think the most important thing to begin with is not to struggle. If you need to rest, then rest. If you practice struggling you'll just get good at struggling.
