I'm 44 and I haven't given up on PB-ing - all my current PB's have been set since I was 40. You should have more stamina now! I do my long runs quite slow. The key to being fast at half marathons is running lots of training miles and never missing your long run. I think

Lack of miles You don't need to be doing speed work you need to be out putting in the long slow miles and building an engine. I nearly fell over when I read you like doing halfs and marathons. |

I am slowly building up the miles. you only increase mileage 10 percent a week.my last marathon was 2012 so I haven't needed to run 20 mile runs etc plus im always injured that's why my mileage isn't high I get it higher then end up injured have weeks off injured then have to start back with low mileage

you're injured because you have not built the slow base so batter your legs

Aging, fat and lazy. But enough about me. I'd say you have done very well so far off quite low mileage. But if you keep getting injured, it's not doing you much good in the bigger picture. Don't beat yourself up and don't beat your body up. More miles, slowly, and after a few months, hopefully injury free, *then* start thinking about PBs. |

Another useful tool for injury prevention is strength training - do you do any?

I'm well past 40 and PB'd my 10M last year vs a PB previously set 5-6 years before, so no, you've got years in you. Just listen to what the wise ones say! (oh and enjoy it. Fun first then PB's will come)
