Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Paula still finished 22nd and beat Liz Yelling on one leg. I have sympathy for Hayley Haining but anyone think she'd have done better?

Paula had more chance of getting a medal than Haining, Haining was behind Yelling at London so no would be the answer

a fit Paula had more chance of getting a medal, but she wasn't fit ..

I doubt Yelling's result was a true one given the fall

I'm with Bill, Haining should have been running not Paula. Anybody else would have had to have proven their fitness to the British team management.

I agree with Jacobi, Hayley was slower than Yelling she had even less chance of a medal in my opinion.

Paula didn't rob anyone of a place. It was a place she had earnt herself, she had every right to use that place to persue her dream. If we are going to not allow any of the people to run who have no chance of a medal then surely why are we letting any of our Male's take part in the 100m?

If we are goingto say that Paula wasn't allowed to take part in the maraton because of injury then should we not say that Kelly Sotherton shouldn't have been allowed to take part because her training has been dogged by kidney problems.

If Haining was good enough she would have earned her place like everyone else.

Paula deserves the place on the basis of her past and the fact that she holds the WR, she is one of the most successful athletes we have ever had. With the greatest respect to Haining, Paula (even not 100%) is in a different class

She clearly wasn't fit so one must question why she ran -it doesn't fit with the decision to "fitness" test Jo Pavey before her 5000m . She is a top class marathon runner but I'm afraid all the hype and publicity and the attention to her demise overshadowed the performance of our other athletes

Better to start and have a go than not bother at all.

Mara Yamauchi deserved more praise for a great run but the balance of coverage is hardly Radcliffe's fault.
