Oh and... I may have a "date" on Sunday morning? A walk, all that is allowed... Be he is up for it. He had a similar experience to mine with Mountain Hippy. As in his GF went all funny and paranoid and didn't want to see him any more.
We have been exchanging texts, he is also screen adverse, and seem to have a lot in common...
Time to see if it clicks...

I've been trying to buy a flat, but the mortgage is proving problematical and it may fall through. I've been looking for 4 years now - one's already fallen through and I'm at entry level so can't downsize my options. Thinking if it does fall through that I might try to do a degree at the University of Highlands and Islands, basing myself on Shetland for the first year/foundation if I have to do it. I have a big deposit, but a shortage of lenders and can't afford to stay in Bristol, so thinking fuggit. Creative writing degree in the highlands and islands. What do folk think?

Is there a plan for after the degree? I'd love to find a way into writing for a living, but wouldn't have the bravery needed to pack in what I'm doing at the moment and start again.

I'd like to do copywriting or editing, but while doing the course, I may well find an interest/specialism.

I thought fuggit when i split up with the ex and I saw my decent lump sum going from buying a wwo bed victorian conversion with garden in Shepherds bush to a bedsit/studio in Acton in a matter of months. I then bought my chapel, mortvage free, in auction. Everyone thought I was mad: recently single, bury yourself in the countryside.
Dont cripple yourself with a mortgage, move out of Bristol...
I have no pension, so when i come to retire, I sell up and move to Southern Italy where I can buy similar for 1/3 of the price, use the rest to live on!

I think you need to follow where your heart wants to go RS. Do you dream of living in the Highlands and Islands?

There is a lovely cottage on a fishing lake that's on one of my running routes, really out in the countryside on a narrow farm track. It does come up for sale every so often, usually out of my budget. I think I would be mad living there single, especially as like a good social life.
Though lockdown makes the cottage look great to really get away from it all.

Why Shetland out of curiosity? I think you would need to be prepared for a very different lifestyle. I can’t speak for Shetland but in the more remote areas here the culture is very different. Rural deprivation (in the widest sense) can come as a shock if you’ve come from a very different area. Access to a range of (reasonably affordable) independent shops might be limited. Bristol strikes me as a bustling community and it might be quite different. That said the change is maybe what you want. Also sometimes these types of communities draw in creative types with many strings to their bow and you could fit right in.

Shetland for the first year. I might have to do a foundation, so it:ll be a long degree. My family are in the highlands, Fife, Edinburgh and Glasgow + one cousin in Shetland. The course is geared towards taking inspiration from the landscape. I've spent a lot of time in Morayshire with family and it looks like I can move around the colleges if there:s space in 2, 3 & 4th years.

Also, HP. Bristol has priced me out, so I've been looking at my limited options. The pandemic has been hard in a wealthy city with no secure home.
