I have a blue 66Fit that my sports masseur recommended. I do find it useful. I have a 'Stick' too which I find better for calves and places difficult to get with the roller.

Mrs Jigs, mine is this one: amazon.co.uk It's fine, though not very hard.

In the meantime, the gym I used to go to has exchanged their regular foamrollers for gridded ones. After using them for a while, I'd definitely recommend them over the regular ones if you can spare the extra cash. They're more than twice as expensive, but I also found them more than twice as useful (read: torturous ;-)). Something like this: healthandcare.co.uk

Mrs J, not strictly speaking about foam rollers (though my class uses them) but have you tried doing Pilates? I do a weekly class and we do loads of core and lower back strengthening - I feel it helps my running no end. We do some stuff on the foam roller (requires extra balance / strength) and I can replicate the exercises at home. Hope you recover soon xxx

Thank you both :) I have just ordered a gridded one from Start Fitness, also having a sports massage today.

Clare I would love to do Pilates but there don't seem to be any classes here :(

Does anyone have any experience with the gridded foam rollers? SpicedApple's looks great, but there are some much rougher looking ones out there - any advantage to these, or does it all become a big gimmicky?

Paul, I haven't tried the ones with bits sticking out (like this one http://www.startfitness.co.uk/product.asp?strParents=3708,4217&CAT_ID=4228&P_ID=50123) - the gridded one I linked to before is sore enough for me. ;-) It is also extremely sturdy and durable, much more so than my regular foam roller, as it is built around a hard plastic core.

Thanks SA, you've sold it to me! It will pay for itself if it means I can avoid a few sports massages!
