I would love a hill nearby that I could train on, I live in Norfolk, nothing near me could be called a hill, as a result I find any little bits that are even slightly undulating hard going.

I saw a blog from a flat lands (Cambridge I think) chap who did the Bob Graham Round. He spent a lot of time training in multi-story carparks!

When you import a route on here from your Garmin it gets score - so in theory you can compare routes for the diffiulty of the hills.

I like the idea that a 20 mile lumpy run counts extra towards a flat marathon - however flat can be relentless, same pace and no cruising the downhills - so I'm not sure it works ????

Perhaps a lumpy 20 miles prepares you for any potholes or falling off kerbs on a road marathon! I love Berkhamsted Half for the same reason - you give on the uphills, but oh do you receive on the downhills, and especially the last mile which I did at 7.32 m/m (which is fast for me!)

do you think there should be an automatic feature of runs that you upload?

Got something to say?

Is there a specific formula to work out when a route can be considered hilly, bumpy, flat, millpond....
