I need some new wheels for my road bike. Am i correct in thinking that 700 is a fairly standard size? I've seen some on Ebay that are a bargain, but will need skewers and a 9 speed shimano cassette. Are all those things fairly universal? i.e will any skewer fit any wheel, and will any wheel take any cassette? And most importantly are they easy enough for a dullard to put together? |

yes 700c is std size for road bike skewers are fairly std cassettes are not std. Shimano 9 speed hub will need a matching cassette - ie not campag nor 8 speed etc and yes failry easy to put together - but you do need a tool to tighten / loosen cassette lock ring |

Usually most Shimano hubs can take 8, 9, or 10 speed, so you should be ok. Which wheels are you looking at? |

Fulcrum 7's. It would be nice to spend lots of money on some wheels, but the budget is tight, and these appear to be a bargain - £109 inc P&P! |

Yep Fulcrum 7s are decent wheels. As are Mavic Aksium if you can find any at a good price.

Nice one. Those entry level Quest wheels for £80 will do the job. Although i like the idea of the 3 spoke carbon jobs! ![]() |

If it's cheapish wheels just for using and abusing you can look at these too merlincycles.co.uk I got a set of them with my cross bike and they've been fine. |
