No changes happening in Europe/UK, and as anthony says the message contents are end to end encrypted still.
I may take a look at signal, though, WhatsApp seems to be on the slide.

I’m not actually “that” ckncerned about privacy; as people have said Facebook and Instagram have lots of stuff about me already. I’m more concerned with them bombarding me with spam adverts and people they think I should contact (as they do incessantly on fb and insta) - that would trigger me to move I think - I’ve downloaded both the others to try and (so far) Signal seems more user friendly.....
