Spleen
Newsround Extra - Interview with Karen Barber and Nicky Slater on their hopes in the World Ice Skating Championships
The Secret Garden
Starsky & Hutch

The highlight if I'd been lucid enough to be aware of it would have been Monkey, a translation of the Japanese series Saiyuki. As a long-standing Japanophile it tickles me that the BBC were showing a Journey to the West serial on the day I was born. That must surely have been one of the earliest Japanese TV imports to the West, long before the days of Pokémon, Dragonball Z et al?

Finally, at 9 o' clock there was a ground-breaking documentary on... a driving school. "Somewhere out there are actress Carolyn Allen , screaming whenever things go wrong; Vietnamese boat person Dip Nguyen who, fortunately, has now been persuaded to stop at pedestrian crossings, and instructor Diana Redmond , who smacks pupils when they make mistakes." Oh those crazy Vietnamese boat people, what won't they do?
