Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

*mind boggling*

Dave, I've never understood that practice of adding the sales tax on at the till. AFAIK it's only the US that does it.

Agreed with the tax thing (and I live in the US). Even more annoying is a subset of Americans who refuse to entertain the notion that other places may do things better.

[Isn't the US "plus tax" thing just a result of different states having different tax regimes?

So, the product costs "X" everywhere. In California the tax would be "Y", but in Florida, the tax would be "Z". Or zero in New Hampshire(?)]

A range of figures being described as an average - from Wikipedia:

As of 2000, the average marriage age range was 25–44 years for men and 22–39 years for women.

[Re: US Tax. It's often said that the reason taxes aren't included is because of variation across states. But the real reason is that retailers don't have to include it and what retailer worth their salt is going to advertise a higher price than they have to? Oh dear - gears are grinding.]

It was more the quoting a price when I had a dollar bill in my hand that was a dollar and then straight away asking for the extra 6 cents.

Food is also annoying where it says $10 on the menu but it is really $13 or $14 after tax and tip.

Rational isn’t mutually exclusive from gear grinding

British Soap Awards. I'm not watching but others in my house are, so it's within earshot. Typical ITV trash for actors who will never be good enough for a BAFTA.
