Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Fierce and Fearless Fleecy
The bike has indeed been invented, but cycling round here is so stressful due to traffic gridlock and complete lack of cycle infrastructure, that scooting on the footpath (both legal and acceptable) is a much more efficient and stress free way to get about and quicker than walking. I scooted 3 miles to my nearest mainline station a while back and beat the bus (which was stuck in said gridlock), saved myself a fiver and got some moderate intensity exercise at the same time. To me it's a rational response to local and national government incompetence at managing transport. And I'm a 45 year old mum of 2, you couldn't get much less hipster-ish. Though if that offends your stereotypical thinking I could try my best to grow a fuck-off beard :)
Oh, and have you TRIED taking a bike on a train or bus recently? You can do it with a Brompton, but a scooter is a fraction of the price :)

Hipster, me, no, definitely not, and I can fit my scooter in my car and park further away from college using it, saving both fuel, the environment and money. Glad it's more of an image thing than a tarring all scootery adults with a they do this brush.

On the plus side, I think it's great that there are enough adults on scooters for it to grind someone's gears :)
I do find it fascinating the way people respond to adults on scooters compared with adults on bikes. Really they are not that different, but one is seen as a 'toy' instead of a transportation choice. Also though, I enjoy the sensation of fewer people trying to actively kill me on a daily basis so you know, swings and roundabouts.

You get REALLY used to being stared at when you use a scooter, though I must say that pretty much all of the comments I get are really positive ones.

I'm not a huge fan of adults on scooters, but that's just local; narrow pavements and a lot of entitled clowns who think anyone going the other way should dive into the hedge or the traffic so they can have the whole path. I doubt Fleecy does that.

IE I'm just not a huge fan of most of the locals in the first place, now I think about it!

I certainly don't. I'm a believer in people on footpaths looking out for each other, even if they happen to be cyclists who are too intimidated to use the roads. Though if said cyclists don't say thank you when I'm walking and move across for them I shout 'you're welcome' at them :)

One surprisingly good thing about scooters is they are quite noisy so they announce your presence without you having to ding a bell. And then most people are so surprised to see you they move over automatically :) But if they don't I just hop off and walk past people.

Difference between riding a bike on a pavement and pushing a scooter is legality. One is illegal and the other isn’t.

It’s not really cut and dry as to whether it is illegal to cycle on all footpaths, footways or pavements. A lot depends upon local bylaws too.

See bikehub.co.uk

How responsible and considerate the cyclists behave has a bearing on whether they are likely to be charged with an offence.

Scooter types don't grind my gears at all, unlike cyclists on the pavement or 3 abreast in the middle of a road, but when I see a scooterist I do think it looks bad for posture and they will end up with one big leg and one small one.
