I know someone whose name is Gillian but she abbreviates it to Jill, changing the first letter.

I wonder if that's normal.

The only Gillian I know who abbreviated her name calls herself Gill, so possibly not

I once new a Gillian Gill and it wasn't until after she'd got married that she realised her name was now Gill Gill (1 X soft C; 1 X hard G)
