I just tracked down this old thread http://www.fetcheveryone.com/viewtopic.php?id=16293&page=1

As soon as I looked at page one it said there were 2 lurkers. I guess I was lurker 1 so who was the second lurker?

What about you? Aren't you going tonight? You're late.

You can never really call yourself a 'proper' lurker until you've lurked on the Wednesday Lurkerthon. I make this sweeping statement in the same way that others might say you can never really call yourself a 'proper' runner until you have done the marathon (by which of course I mean THE marathon, that one that is longer and tougher than all the other marathons) ;-)

I'm slightly more puzzled by the 130 watchers on the singles thread. I mean 130?? What's that all about. And there are always loads of lurkers on there but only a handful or 2 of us who post regularly. I mean all we talk about is bikes, OB's dates, and penile leakage......

The penile leakage keeps them hanging on.

I know what you mean halfpint. 130 WATCHERS - how many of you post in general? It's interesting. Sorry, I overuse 'interesting' all the time. But it is. And now I really must stop lurking on my own thread til later.

At a guess I'd say about 12 regulars and some non single interlopers :p It is the best thread though.

I'm still confused. I think (thank you, Wikipedia) that a lurker is someone who hangs around on forums reading the stuff but not posting. But then what is a watcher? someone who does post but hasn't lately? someone who has not posted yet but have not been looking for very long, so they might? something that is nothing to do with any of these things? I am too old for this. Would some young internet-savvy person please explain?

Isn't a "watcher" someone who has ticked/clicked the "watch this thread" option? I have no idea what it does if you do that - I mean, do you get notifications of new posts or something? - but that would be my best guess.
