Our "work time" supping was done in Heanor. Jolly Colliers or New Inn on Tag Hill. I remember at Christmas, when all the firms on the industrial estate broke up, the landlord of the Colliers took the curtains down and hid all the table and chairs in the skittle alley.

Not been in either since I moved jobs in early 90's. Even though I drive past them regularly.

Only 2 pubs left on Tag Hill. Used to be 5 within 50 yards, 6 if you count the Con club

I joined my current company soon after it had been privatised.

At my grade, in the nationalised days, you were given an office, and a fully stocked drinks cabinet. In the short time since, all that had been abolished and everyone sat out in the open plan office.

Some were still grumbling at the loss of these 'privileges' which they felt were their right for being more important.

I fear we may have strayed from 'weird lunches' however...

.....so.....

.....I worked a year as a graduate in a paint factory in Canning Town, site was right on the river. The lads on the factory floor would leave fishing lines out overnight, and sometimes get eels. These would be kept in a bucket, and boiled later for lunch *hurls*

Thursday was the big day for pub lunch, as it was pay day - and this the old days when you'd go up to the cash office and get your wages in a little brown envelope with a window, and you could see all the folded up fivers and feel a few coins rolling about inside :-) People would be straight off down the pub once they got paid. Rough place, recommended you went to the cash office in groups as sometimes people were mugged for their wages on the way back from the different factory buildings.

Thursday lunchtimes would get pretty wild, strippers, fights - anything could happen.

It was IP.

No idea if it's still there, became Coutaulds I think but kept the IP name.

We had a football match - those of us in the research labs/office vs those out on the factories. Bloodbath!
