On the other hand, I accidentally cut in front of someone when I was feeling ill, and the abuse I got nearly made me stop there

I think that's different than pushing another runner out of the way though isn't it? You shouldn't have got abuse for that!

I got pushed a few times. Sore right arm this morning from a girl pushing past me even though there was nowhere for her to go.

What an amazing day! I got round in 04:54:06. \o/

Smashed my three goals of running the whole way, enjoying it and going sub5. I had to have a pee stop which took off 5 minutes from my time. I got round the first half on-pace at 2:20. So slowed down massively in second half. I found it SO HOT and was having to take on more fluids than expected and couldn't keep the pace up.

As for the general experience, I loved it. The crowds, the cheers, the bands (especially the massive drums under the flyover), the hi5ing kids. There were a lot of people who would suddenly start walking in the middle of the road, which was annoying, but I can understand that sometimes your legs stop walking. People not throwing water to the edge of the road was hazardous. In some places I saw the geneal public cutting across the course causing havoc.

As for headphones, I think its awful to wear them to a race in general. But especially here. At one stage I was running past a charity cheering point that was quite long. They were going mental for a runner just ahead of me. He was wearing headphones and was completely ignoring them. He hadn't even seen them (WTF?!). In the end I sprinted to catch him and tapped him on the shoulder and got him to look round (to a round of THANK YOUs from the cheering point). I just think that those cheerers have been there since 7am holding that spot, it must really suck when runners don't even hear you.

I thought that the general organisation was fab and everything went exactly to plan. Well, apart from me slowing down so much in the second half!

What a brilliant Spencerian!! My first London Mara and loved every mile of it :-) :-)
The supporters and cheering was immense, the water/drinks stations were brilliant as it was such a warm day!!!
I didn't do my sub 5hr target, but I didn't care as the event was spectacular. I did wait for 10min at 10k for the loo which really slowed me down, but hey ho.
The only thing which p*ssed me off was the headphone wearing runners, why run a race such as VLM and miss out on the atmos and cheering, they should defo be banned!!! Also the weaving in and out and not giving any consideration to other runners.
Lovely to see so many Fetchies at Mile 22, gave HOd a sewaty hug, saw Rosehip running around mile 16 (i think) which was good!A brilliant race and experience which I'll keep forever!

Looking at my results just now, did the first half in 1h57 (20 mins slower than in training) which was to be expected what with the number of runners and lack of pace and then got worse after that especially between 30-35k.
Think every April marathon I've done has been quite a bit slower than the Sept/Oct ones.
