a) Me.

b) None. My PBs at 1/2 marathon, marathon and most other distances have been since I have been vegan.

It's easier than it used to be and it was easier than I thought it would be, although a steep learning curve to begin with. Hardest part is eating out but that is getting better. Plus the Star Trek jokes get very tiresome.

Good for you and good luck with it.

Is it the case - and I'm guessing here - that a vegetarian restaurant is likely to have several vegan-appropriate options as well? Whereas with a non-specialist one, it's more a case of 'take the ham off that one and call it vegan'.

Vegetarian places in the UK normally do, yes. In mainstream restaurants the vegetarian option normally has some cheese or egg that can't be removed so, yes, often it is the bit that would be at the side of a meat or fish dish. Most places are pretty helpful if notified in advance, in spite of the Thames Bridges Challenge experience.

I don't follow a vegan diet but I used to be a vegetarian (10 years) and often had dairy and egg-free meals. You probably know this Izzy, but cooking from specific cultures makes it pretty easy to be vegan, eg:

Thai
Indian
Chinese
Italian
Mexican.

When I was a vegetarian, I often had dairy-free months, not by design but it was just the way it worked out. I cook a lot of Indian dishes and use tempeh and tofu in my South Asian cooking.

I make my own almond milk as I don't like the shop-bought at all. Easy-peasy and takes about 10 mins.

Coconut water and other permutations of that nut such as milk, yoghurt and keffir are useful ingredients I find.

You probably already know this, but Scott Jurek, multi time ultra running champion, is a vegan, and wrote a book about it which has a few energy giving recipes. Some very very tasty! The chocolate one however melted all down my biking shirt and caused much amusement on a sportive ahem. The title, imaginatively, is Eat and Run. scottjurek.com

Hands up here, vegan, following a more whole food plant based diet. I don't run anymore.

Glad to see its properly researched. I feel tonnes better physically being vegan. Any help, recipes whatever just shout up :)

Scott Jurek lost me at 8 Grain Pancakes. Sounded lovely but I have too small a kitchen to stock spelt flour, buckwheat flour, whole wheat flour, oat flour, millet flour, rye flour, barley flour and corn meal.

I forgot to mention - the palate changes and I now love stuff like black coffee, dark choc that I hated before. Vegan cheese is an acquired taste but soft cheeses tend to be nice.
