Paper straws are unpleasant to use and don’t really work. They set my teeth on edge and trigger a gag reflex (as does wooden cutlery). It is impossible, for example, to drink a McDonalds milkshake through a paper straw, even when you swap to second one half way through, as my daughter found out today. There really needs to be a better solution. In the meantime I shall make a fortune selling illegal straws on the black market.

[McDonalds paper straws cannot be recycled. McDonalds plastic ones could. The plastic ones can also be used more than once]

[i thought that the issue was that the McD paper straws could, technically, be recycled but only when all collected together and recycled in one go, which is a completely impractical approach and amounts pretty much to the same thing]

Dio, i think your post contradicts the thread title ;-)

virtually no plastic is actually recycled. And you can drink a mcdonalds milkshake through a paper straw, I advise your daughter to become a seventeen stone middle aged man with a big appetite.

Ok, this is interesting stuff. Another example of legislation being pushed through without being thoroughly thought out.

Here’s another (that might also be equally as popular):

Raw celery is unpleasant and should not be served in salad and with crudités (in fact, let’s get rid of crudités completely). Celery is only good cooked in stews and casseroles.
