Jenni well done. Ultras in the summer are different as you won't be wading through mud. Now you've trained for this one you might as well done another.

haha Becca7 actually I would probably be a lot happier doing one in the summer I'm feeling pretty good today, stiff when I first get up but ok once I get moving feet not great though - I have blisters so I'm in comfortable shoes today |

That's great. I've often felt more wrecked after a 10km or half marathon than after an ultra. I hope the feet will have recovered soon.

I've lost count of the number of times I've had that discussion! I'm just shocked that Andy is into his 70s now |

Excellent article. Encouraged that through luck (and if I'm honest, stinginess - it might be a Scottish / Aberdonian thing!) I have stumbled on the correct combination of warming/waterproofing - base layer, fleece and light jacket. (Also known as £Free + £10 + £50 or free with vouchers) I did West Highland Way (night, day and night again) without changing, just zipping up and and down the fleece and jacket. Admittedly it was a good weather year with neither blazing sun nor heavy, continuous rain and low temps. But some rain, and temp variation in the night and up a couple 000 ft. And he doesn't deal with (intentionally - he says he's just dealing with the waterproof jacket thing) all the other kit for e.g. extremities (gloves, hats, buffs etc.) which I think are equally important. I'd love to see an article about legs - when to wear longs, over trousers etc. and relative importance vs. upper body. Then there are shoes and socks. Hmmm, that's another whole science! G |

gloves especially - having non-frozen and dry hands makes all the difference!
